Automation

‘Automation reduces the statistical spread of test results.’
 
This is the primary reason why many research centers are already equipped with automated Zwick testing machines. 
 
Operator influence on test results is minimized, as each specimen is tested in exactly the same way, improving test result comparability and statistical reliability. 
 
Listed below are some of the many other benefits of test automation. 

  • Laboratory staff are relieved of routine work and can concentrate on more demanding tasks. 
  • Zwick handling systems can test complete batches of specimens – overnight if required - without supervision. 
  • Payback period is usually less than 2 years, depending on specimen flow. 
  • Log-book functions allow exact traceability of test conditions for each individual test. 
  • Various types of test, such as tensile, flexure and hardness tests, can be combined in one system. 
  • Test results can be transferred direct to superordinate computer systems.

The 'roboTest A' robotic testing system (Compact) is used to perform fully automatic tensile tests on metallic specimens (e.g. to EN 10002-1, ISO 6892, JIS Z 2201, ASTM E8) or plastics specimens (e.g. to ISO 527-2, ASTM D790).

roboTest B

The 'roboTest B' (Compact) robotic testing system is used to perform fully automatic tensile tests (e.g. to ISO 527-2, ASTM D638) or flexure tests (e.g. to ISO 178) on plastic specimens.

The 'roboTest F' (Clamp) robotic testing system is designed for non-rigid specimens such as films/foils, textiles and non-wovens. By using the appropriate specimen grips, metallic and plastics specimens and wires can additionally be tested.

The 'roboTest L' (Linear) robotic testing system is used for fully automatic tensile tests on metallic specimens (e.g. to EN 10002-1, ASTM E8, JIS Z2201) or tensile and flexure tests on plastics specimens (e.g. to ISO 527-2 (1A, 1B, 1BA), ASTM D790 (IV) or ISO 178).

The 'roboTest R' (Polar) robotic testing system is used for fully automatic tensile tests on metallic specimens (e.g. to EN 10002-1) or tensile and flexure tests on plastics specimens (e.g. to ISO 527-2, ISO 178 or ASTM D638).
