More Information
  • Type 8392 single-actuator hydraulic grips, Fmax 10 kN Type 8494 double-actuator hydraulic grips , Fmax 50 kN

hydraulic grips with cylinders arranged in line with the clamping direction

  • The standard version of the hydraulic grips from 50 kN to 250 kN features an excentric offset between piston and piston rod. This allows also the specimen grips with short clamping lengths to be tested
  • The large opening width and long clamping stroke make these specimen grips extremely versatile.
  • Small load cells, specimen grips, test fixtures and devices can be attached via T-slots incorporated into the lower part of the grip body.
  • The single-actuator hydraulic grips are also available with a tandem cylinder to enable uniform force application to the specimen (especially suitable for tests on fabrics, textiles and geotextiles).
  • Strain-rate control to EN ISO 6892-1:2009 and ASTM E8 – 09.

Hydraulic grips Type 8589 for short clamping-lengths, Fmax 150 kN

Hydraulic grips for short clamping-lengths

The jaw insets of these hydraulic grips are supported and held parallel by a third actuator. This patented method allows specimens with short clamping-lengths (jaw coverage) to be held securely also.

Advantages of hydraulic grips for short clamping-lengths

  • also suitable for short clamping lengths (limiting factor is the maximum permitted surface pressure of 1000 N/mm² on the gripped surfaces) thanks to patented clamping principle
  • guide system (patent applied for) ensures accurate reproducibility of the clamping position vertically braced arrangement during the test makes these specimen grips suitable for cyclic load and strain-controlled tests also
  • free field of view (including with short clamping lengths) for optical and mechanical extensometers
  • optional T-slotted shoe connector saves time by allowing small load cells, specimen grips, fixtures and test devices to be attached without removing the specimen grip jaws
  • symmetrically closing jaws save time required for adjusting to varying specimen thicknesses and ensure that the specimen is held exactly in the test axis
  • strain-rate control to EN ISO 6892-1:2009 and ASTM E 8 – 09.

Type 8594 'body over wedge' hydraulic grips, Fmax 250 kN

Hydraulic grips employing the 'body over wedge' operating principle

The gripping force is hydraulically transmitted to the wedge jaws via the body of the grips. Because the jaws do not move in the test direction, clamping is 100% parallel. These grips are suitable both for static tensile and compression tests and for fatigue tests in the pulsating tensile/compressive stress range or in the alternating load range. Superimposed torsional loads can additionally be applied.

Advantages of hydraulic 'body over wedge' grips

  • jaws moving radially to the specimen combined with the testXpert II testing software's 'Force Constant Hold' feature (maintains constant force) prevent unwanted axial specimen loading
  • excellent clamping position reproducibility
  • secure, play-free gripping under every type of load
  • symmetrically closing jaws save time required for adjusting to varying specimen thicknesses and ensure that the specimen is held exactly in the test axis
